Most of our donkeys arrived here with a unique past, sharing a journey toward healing and a slower pace of life. Some of our residents came to us needing urgent medical care, arriving thin, battling severe skin infections, or carrying physical scars from being tied up too tightly. Others came from unusual living situations, like a donkey who needed safety after a stressful life living alongside aggressive camels. We have even welcomed unexpected new beginnings, like a rescued mama donkey who safely gave birth to her foal right here on our desert land.
We are also incredibly proud to provide a safe haven for the Burro Majorero—Fuerteventura's indigenous donkey. As an endangered breed, every Majorero represents a vital piece of Canary Island heritage that we are deeply privileged to help protect. Whether they came from difficult circumstances or simply needed a safe new place to call home, their stories converge here—a haven where their pasts are left behind, and their gentle personalities can finally shine.
HOPE
Hope is a 10-year-old gentle giant with magnificently huge ears. Despite a front leg injury that sometimes causes her to be lame, she lives a very happy, fulfilled life with the herd and has medication to treat her whenever she is sore. She loves cuddles, hates missing a brushing session, and pulls the funniest faces that make her look like she is smiling directly at you!
SANDY
This friendly 5-year-old is a bundle of love and pure mischief! She is incredibly easy to catch, always happy to have her halter put on, and is usually the first to greet you at the gate. She never wanders too far from her mum (Lola/Hope), but just a heads-up: if you hear a strange noise or a sudden commotion in the field, Sandy is almost certainly the cause of it!
AMANITA
This resilient 16-year-old lost her best friend Buttercup last year, but she has adapted beautifully. While she wasn't used to being handled at first, plenty of time and patience have worked wonders—she is now happy wearing her halter and being led around the field. Her confidence is growing every single day, and her cheeky personality is really starting to shine!
KRYSTAL
Krystal is 17 years old and absolutely adores humans! She will happily shadow you around the field just to score an extra hug or a brushing session. She gets special cream applied to her lower legs to help with her dry skin, but that doesn't slow her down one bit—she still loves to zoom around the field with the younger donkeys.
HENRY
This 5-year-old proves that you don't have to be the biggest to be the boss! He lives in a field with his best friend Yndio, playing all day long, and despite being smaller than his giant buddy, Henry is absolutely the leader of their duo. Keep an eye out for his signature smile—he loves to show off his teeth.
YNDIO
At 5 years old, Yndio is our largest male donkey, but don't let his size fool you—he is a total big softy! He loves nothing more than a good cuddle and a thorough brushing session. You will know he is excited to see you when he lets out a giant, welcoming bray the second you reach his field.
HIWA
At 25 years old, Hiwa is one of our older, wiser, and quieter residents. She has mastered the art of relaxation and spends her perfect days eating and snoozing in the warm sun. Of course, she will always wake up for her two favorite things: a good brush and a big cuddle.
IZABELLA
At 3 and a half years old, Iza Bella is becoming a fiercely independent lady now that she is weaned from her mum. She loves running and playing with the rest of the herd. She is also a dream to care for, always happy to get her hair brushed and her hooves cleaned!
ESTRELLA
Estrella is a happy 6-year-old who just loves to play and run around the field. We are currently working with her very patiently to get her used to humans and her halter. Building her trust takes time and patience, but watching her progress is incredibly rewarding!
